Zeal For Your House Consumes Me - John 2

John 2
Jesus Clears the Temple Courts
13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[c]

After reading this I began to wonder what the phrase "Zeal for your house will consume me." means. Since this is a quotation of another passage written in Pslams, I went to Psalms 69 and read the rest of the verse.

Pslam 69:9 for zeal for your house consumes me,
and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.

When God is insulted, that insult falls on those who are in the family of God. Honestly, I am insulted when I see God insulted. Why not? You surely would defend a flesh and blood family member if someone insulted them, because they are your flesh and blood right? What hurts them hurts you!

So why do you allow God to be insulted and do nothing about it? Would it be right of Jesus to walk away from that temple and leave that filth inside of it? No.

You know what Jesus has that most Christians today are lacking? A BACKBONE. He obviously didn't have the issue of wanting be a people pleaser.

To many churches walk around on eggshells because they are afraid they are going to offend a church member. That is called people pleasing. You value their opinion more than God.

It's time to grow up and get a backbone and start doing what is right. Stop letting your real Father be insulted. It's not right and it's not acceptable.

Cut out the crap in your life, it's an offense to God. Music, literature, images, television shows. Anything that is obviously filthy, dosn't deserve to make it's way into your temple.

Let God be Holy instead of some figure filed away in your brain. Grow a backbone and let yourself become strong.

Because the world looks and sees people who are weak in faith as their only examples and sees no difference between them and the outside world. In turn, having no backbone, is doing damage to the cause of the Lord.

Stop being weak, get yourself strong, stop caring about rejection, and be the man/woman of God your supposed to be.

Amen.
