The Cost of Following Jesus
57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”
But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”
62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
When you become a born again follower of Jesus, your old life passes away and the new one begins. So when Jesus tells these people "Let the dead bury their own dead." He lets them know that they are no longer the worlds, but belong to Jesus. If you have any doubt in your heart, as to weither or not your follow the Lord, then you aren't yet ready to be dedicated to this relationship.
It's 100% or nothing else. It's just like a marriage, you don't go and look at other women or men while your engaged or married. Why would you do that to Jesus? Why would you doubt in your heart weither or not you love him.
Would you do that to your husband or wife? No. This relationship you have with Jesus, is the same, you wouldn't lead him on. Show him 100% true love.
It's what He deserves.
