Why not make stones into bread? - Matthew 4:2-4

Matthew 4
2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
When I finished reading this, God asked me this, "Why was it so important for Jesus to not take up the devil's offer of turning stones into bread?"

My answer:  Jesus was out in the wilderness to feed His spirit and starve His flesh.

God's Reply:  That is one thing, but let me tell you the other.  This is about letting me be the provider and give you provision, not relying on the earthly providers.   This story is about surrendering control of your finances, your life, your whole world to me.

Reading the following passage, the original statement that Jesus referred to in Matthew 4, will help clarify the above statement.

Deuteronomy 8
3And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
You may equate God's words "wisdom" but when you step back and take a real look at what God can do with His words, then a whole new angel opens up.  God created the world with His words, He made the sun, the stars, the moon, and gave life to Adam and Eve.

So, bread alone will not be enough to keep you filled up and surviving.  Without the Word of God, you will not live.
